Every dog needs training. But not every dog needs the same training.
For some, it’s the basics: sit, stay, come, and walking on a leash without towing their human down the block. For others, it’s a refresher on manners that slipped somewhere along the way. And some dogs need more focused help with confidence, reactivity, or habits that make everyday life harder than it needs to be.
Let’s face it, dogs have their very own opinions. Big ones. Some believe “sit” is merely a suggestion. Others think a leash is an invitation to lead the neighborhood parade. The good news? Every dog can learn. The trick is finding what makes them tick.
That’s why training at Happy Hound isn’t one-size-fits-all. We offer options for every stage, from first-time foundations to advanced, so each dog gets the kind of help that fits their personality and their family’s goals.
Annie’s story is one version of what that can look like.
Meet Annie: Our Featured Happy Hound
Annie came to her mom through Golden Gate Lab Rescue, and it didn’t take long for her foster to become a forever home. (We love a foster love match!)

Before that, Annie had lived with a family that gave her little structure and not much attention. She grew into a very sweet adult dog, but an anxious and under-socialized one. Out in the world, she didn’t know how to react to other dogs or new situations, and she didn’t quite know how to just be a dog.
So Annie and her mom came to Happy Hound, and Annie enrolled in our 21-Day Celebrity Rehab & Socialization program, followed by one-on-one sessions.
About the program: Celebrity Rehab & Socialization is designed for dogs with dog-to-dog reactivity. It focuses on strategic, safe socialization and building reliable recall in high-distraction environments. It’s perfect for pups who need more control, confidence, and calm around other dogs.
Annie’s goals:
- Leash manners
- Leash reactivity
- Place
- Socialization
- Leave it / drop it
Annie today: She’s made a complete 180. Annie is a happier, healthier, more confident dog who comes to daycare and plays happily with everyone. She and her mom now head out on all kinds of adventures together, because they both gained the skills and confidence to take on the world.
And she keeps those skills sharp by attending our Monthly Reinforcement Class, because good habits are easiest to keep when you keep practicing them.
The Happy Hound Secret Sauce
Training isn’t just about teaching a dog to sit, stay, or walk nicely on a leash. It’s about building trust, creating good habits, and helping dogs and their humans understand each other a little better.

At Happy Hound, we start by rewarding good choices and building a foundation of trust. From there, we introduce different techniques and tools based on each dog’s personality, behavior, and training goals.
Our approach is inspired by The Art of Training Your Dog by the Monks of New Skete, which emphasizes practical, real-life results, calm leadership, and a stronger bond between dogs and their people.
Because the goal isn’t just a well-trained dog. It’s a happier, more confident dog and a human who knows how to keep those good habits going. Just ask Annie.
Different Dogs. Different Goals. One Happy Hound.
Whether your dog is just starting out, needs a tune-up, or is working through something bigger like Annie was, we’ll help you find the right path. Because every dog deserves the chance to be their best, happiest self.
We’re pretty proud of our Happy Hound crew who are committed to training all types of dogs, they lead with tremendous care and skill, and it turns out we’re not the only ones. Our trainers and programs have earned recognition from our community year after year.
